Update 1.08 is coming to console soon. Do we have to do a server wipe to get the updates? If so, this will screw up many role playing and base building servers.

Changed the title of the thread from “Dayz Updates” to “DayZ Update Server Wipe?”. -
Curious about how this works, myself. New territory since this is the first patch since modding went in on console.
If the update doesn't clear existing XMLs, I was planning to lock main server, download the new XMLs from my test server, rebuild everything from the new files, and re upload the new build to test. Test. Then, assuming it's all good, upload to main server and not wipe.
Seems like the logical way to go, but not sure what all will happen with the update, either.

I dont have a test server. You mind file sharing the old and new default .xml files so that they can be compared when the time comes?
-
They keep them posted at the top of this forum, I think.
-
You can use Notepad++ compare plugin to check old vs. new file on PC .

On Consoles whenever a new patch drop rather than wipe do a restore from last backup will do the tricks

Sort of get it. Doesn't explain how it will effect the files. For example, Id assume the new sporter .22 won't be inserted into my already edited .xml files. Ill have to add it manually I assume. After the update is live, do you reinstall the server, then backup? Do we backup missions, xbox, or database files? I wish there was a step-by-step tutorial of some sort and an explanation of what will need to be changed exactly.

as for the new XML new items will be in the updated XML
you will need to use XML difference checker of the updated XML vs your Modded XML and add the missing lines, Since your current XML below 1.08 if that make sense
-
I think what's being asked is if accessing the new files will require a reinstall and, thus, a wipe.
-
Right. That helps. That makes sense. I can do that for sure, but that would mean the changes are automatic (I hope so!).... because if I try to add the sporter .22 now, its not a working gun. The canopy tent brings nothing into the game. But after the update it will work? If i have to wipe, to get these changes, will restoring to latest backup resort back to 1.07? making it impossible to keep progress and bases with 1.08? (i hope not).

It's my understanding you will not need to do a complete reset to default config. We will need to do a comparison of the new xml files and determine what we want in our current files. Or, if you haven't made that many mods, simply use the new files and add your changes.

Thank you. Id hope that's the way it would need to be done. Obviously there are 350+ community servers on Xbox alone, it would not sit well for the many role playing servers to practically be forced into a wipe. Or if there is something special that needs to be done, hopefully it comes with an explanation and it as simple as adding to the xml files.
