Try uploading new map images with json. Also make sure you have FOW not disabled.
Also see if others that connect have the same issue. I suspect any new players will not have a black screen.
they havent fixed it for me ..i joined different server and also my own server from nitrado thats unplayeble for like 4/5 days .no refund possible ( nitrado points me to microsoft ) and still BLACK MAP !!!
Same issue here anyone connecting to the server is met without a map all maps are blank. I cant progress past the freeport lvl as we cant do anything or find anything. Even the missions are broken, but only on the Nitrado servers.
just to check all avenues I went back to the public servers and hey I have a map, played single player and I have a map reinstalled the Map on the Nitrado Server and still no map. so to recap We can play on the Official servers just fine, you can play alone just fine but your Nitrado server maps will look like this.

FOW isn’t disabled, but I have no clue how to upload images with json. I’ve wiped the map, reinstalled the server, and restarted the server multiple times now.

check what version you are running on the server also map is working fine on pc but not on xbox

I just purchased a server last night, and i am having the same issue. For the moment not a big deal as I am trying to figure out the game mechanics, but I assume it will quickly be a problem. Hopefully they figure it out soon.
And to add, not all folks are experiencing the same 'black map'. I agree, hopefully its resolved soon.
you say not all but not 1 single person I've spoken to on nitrado ocean map servers has a working map
My maps aren't working either. I've tried everything and nothing. The more xbox players rent these servers the more complaints you will see coming forth. Atm the prices per server is shying ppl away from renting them as we have to rent each server separately as a expansion server. I wish we could just get a 5x5 like PC players can and call it a day. Lol
Something I did just notice is the latest patch (400.56) supposed to fix the black map with HDR enabled. But as I look at my server version its 400.54. Shouldn't the server updated on it's own? I'll see if I can update via the web interface after work and see if that helps.

Just so you are aware us PC folks have to rent a server for each grid as well. That is controlled by the game creators.
Didnt want anyone to read this and think you can get 1 server for a 5x5. 5x5 = 25 servers.
Sorry if I implied that. I guess i could have worded that a little diffrent. We dont have the option for a package as in 2x2 or 4x4. We have to get a main server (1 single server)as a home region then add on each individual (expansion) server billed seperatly.
You can use the editor and create a massive world if you want. It is what the PC folks do. I have created 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 or been part of a group to help build them. The default ones do have things missing in them.
The editor is worth learning and getting into. Folks can add more quests, their own quests, rename islands, edit spawn entries, player and animal weight multipliers.
As for the billing part, that would be microsoft. 
But we are falling off track of the topic in this thread "Black Maps".
again, hopefully it gets fixed for everyone.
