I started my own unofficial server and did the whole grid editor and uploaded the png map files. I have literally followed that wiki every step of the way but my map still does not want to work.

I'm having the exact same problem, I'm reinstalled grid cells making sure they are PNG and also the mapimage as png... and not forgetting the JSON file either. but Myself and friends are still getting black maps. Did you solve it?
